It is almost over…!

This season has gone far too quickly. Injuries, rain and holidays have impacted on my own, and the club’s season. I have mustered 14 games so far this year, less than half of what I have played in the last few years. In those games my performances with the bat and ball have been largely dissapointing (do I still even remember how to bowl?) but as last year showed me, every match counts and whilst there are a couple of weeks left there are still some runs to make and matches to win. My last knock in the middle was positive, even if it was five weeks ago!

In the meantime I was lucky enough to be interviewd by Jon Holmes as part of the Rainbow Laces campaign run by Stonewall and the ECB. For many years gay men have been invisible in cricket, both at amateur and professional levels. This has started to change over recent years so it was great to see four players interviewed in the series for Sky Sports — you can see all of the articles here, including my story.

So the weather looks glorious this bank holiday weekend and there is cricket to play; we aren’t quite done with the season yet. We go again and it will be good to get back out there. If I continue with the back to basics approach who knows what might happen. It will be good to have a positive finish to the season, both personally and for the club. The rainbow grip will get a few more outings yet, time to make them long stays at the crease.
